RPC Player Announcement: Mixed Doubles Age Divisions 8-27-2010

Rochester Pickleball Club Tournament & Festival
Mixed Doubles Age Divisions
Friday, August 27, 2010

LOCATION (REMEMBER IT WAS CHANGED): Royal Oak has come to our rescue and letting us have this tournament on the recently opening Pickleball courts there. They are not tennis courts with additional tape applied for lines !!!! An outdoor first for many of us.

Whittier Park in Royal Oak. If you want to MapQuest or GPS it try using the address 720 E. Farnum, Royal Oak, MI 48068.

ARRIVAL: Please arrive by 4:30 to check in and sign a new waiver for Royal Oak (the other one was for a tournament being held in Rochester.)

BRING: Bring water and a snack if you need them. The Royal Oak Pickleball group will be serving hot dog/chips/drink for a donation of $3 (or more accepted) to raise money for these beautiful courts. There will be a port-a-potty available.

FORMAT: Format of play will be Round Robin except for age 60-64 and 65-69.

In the 19+ event there are 3 teams. Each team will play the other two. Each match will be best 2 our of 3 games to 11 win by 2. You will receive 1 point for each game you win. If you win 2/2 in a match you get a bonus point. Each team is guaranteed to play 4 games (at least 2 games in each of the 2 matches).

In the 50-54 group we are expecting 4 teams. Each team will play each of the other three in one game to 15 win by two.

In the 55-59 group we are expecting four or five teams. They will play Round Robin and each match will be 1 game to 15 win by 2. You will receive 1 point for each game you win.

There are 10 teams in 60-64 and two teams in 65-69 so they will be combined.  There will be 4 pools of three teams each. These three will play each other in one game to 15 win by two. From these games we will get a seeding for a 12 team single elimination bracket. Those who finish first in their pool will get a bye in the first round. The second place finishers will play a third place finisher from a different pool. The losers of these games are out. The winners play one of the first place finishers from a different pool. Four more teams will be eliminated in this round. The next round would eliminate two more and get us down to the gold/silver match. BUT the two who just lost will play each other for the BRONZE medal

Medals are awarded after Round Robin play based on the following -- in this order:

-- Most points received for winning games
-- head-to-head winner in case of tie
-- point differential in case there is still a tie
-- if still two teams tied they will play one game to 11 win by ONE
-- if somehow there are 4 teams tied at the end of Round Robin play there will be a 4 team single elimination bracket drawn up by the Tournament Director to decide placement.

This could be clear as mud to most of you ... but I understand it and will be happy to explain it face-to-face as needed.

We are in need of referrees. If you know of someone who has done tournament reffing before or has been trained, please let me know.

See you Friday at 4:30 or before.
