The Rochester Pickleball Club Tournament and Festival begins this Wednesday with your event!
LOCATION (REMEMBER IT WAS CHANGED): Royal Oak has come to our rescue and letting us have this tournament on the recently opening Pickleball courts there. They are not tennis courts with additional tape applied for lines !!!! An outdoor first for many of us.
Whittier Park in Royal Oak. If you want to MapQuest or GPS it try using the address 720 E. Farnum, Royal Oak, MI 48068.
ARRIVAL: Please arrive by 4:30 to check in and sign a new waiver for Royal Oak (the other one was for a tournament being held in Rochester.)
BRING: Bring water and a snack if you need them.
The Royal Oak Pickleball group will be serving hot dog/chips/drink for a donation of $3 (or more accepted) to raise money for these beautiful courts.
There will be a port-a-potty available.
FORMAT: Format of play will be Round Robin.
In the 50-54 event there are 4 players (as of the moment). Each team will have three matches. Each match will be best 2 our of 3 games to 11 win by 2. You will receive 1 point for each game you win. If you win 2/2 in a match you get a bonus point. Each team is guaranteed to play 6 games (at least 2 games in each of the 3 matches). Matches will follow one after the other. You will NOT have a time when teams in your age group are playing and you have a bye. Don't worry -- we will give a break between matches.
In both the 55-59 and 60-64 we are expecting five teams. These will also be Round Robin but there is not time to do 2 out of 3 game matches and be guaranteed to finish before we need glow in the dark balls, lines, and nets. So ... each match will be 1 game to 15 win by 2. You will receive 1 point for each game you win. You will playing 4 matches out of 5 time slots so each team will have a time slot where they have a bye. For some, this will be the first match and for others the last which means those teams will play 4 straight matches. Hence, we will have a break between matches as needed.
Medals are awarded after Round Robin play based on the following -- in this order:
-- Most points received for winning games
-- head-to-head winner in case of tie
-- point differential in case there is still a tie
-- if still two teams tied they will play one game to 11 win by ONE
-- if somehow there are 4 teams tied at the end of Round Robin play there will be a 4 team single elimination bracket drawn up by the Tournament Director to decide placement.
This could be clear as mud to most of you ... but I understand it and will be happy to explain it face-to-face as needed.
